Q: What is conversion varnish?
Greg Williams: Conversion varnish is a catalyzed coating which has become very popular with kitchen cabinet manufacturers and others for its durability, solvent and moisture resistance, and relative ease of use in a production context. It requires more care than pre-catalyzed lacquer to use properly, and is seldom the preference for the home handyman or hobbyist, although this may be changing also.
