CAD programs for the home shop

Printer Friendly Version  Increase Text Size Decrease Text Size
Q: Is there a basic woodworking CAD program for the home shop enthusiast? I have seen some full-blown $300 and $400 CAD programs that are more than most of us require.

Carol Reed: All CAD programs have a learning curve, most of them quite steep. Your best program is one that includes local classes in its use. Try your community college or high school. As for all CAD programs offering more features than most woodworkers can envision using, you are right. You also will be amazed at how many of those features you will find helpful once you learn the program. Usually when this question is asked, and it is asked often, the real question is which CAD program is easy to learn? There is no definitive answer to that. It depends too much on your existing background skills.
